| Post Adoption Services ![]() Unlike the adoptions of many years ago, when services to birth parents usually ended at the time of the relinquishment, our staff continues to be available for birth parents and their family members. The birth parent support group meets on a monthly basis and is open to all birth parents and their families. Many birth parents return to speak to our adoptive parenting classes as well as participate in high school and college presentations. With Open Adoption, most birth parents stay in touch with the adoptive family. But if issues arise later on, birth parents can always rely on our social workers to advocate for them and help them sort through any issues of concern. Post Placement Services for Adoptive Families At our annual Picnic, adoptive families come together to celebrate adoption with a delicious tri-tip barbecue and a variety of family oriented activities. IPAS maintains a lending library with reading material for all members of the adoption triad, including excellent children's literature. IPAS social workers are available to provide individual counseling to adoptive families should the need arise. This may range from a phone conversation on "how to answer a specific question" to counseling for the entire family.A "Parents of Vets" group meets monthly to discuss issues of interest to those who have adopted older children. Post Placement Services for those with "Closed" Adoptions Adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents often contact us requesting background information that was not available in our earlier days of closed adoption. The law allows us to provide "non-identifying" information to adult adoptees about their birth family. Birth parents are also welcome to contact the agency for "non-identifying" information about the adoptive family. To assist these individuals, we first research our files, gather information, complete the appropriate forms and then schedule an appointment with a social worker. A small fee is usually charged for this service but information will not be denied someone who is unable to pay. Along with the background information, counseling with regard to adoption related issues is also provided. If a birth parent and an adoptee have both placed a Consent for Contact in their file at the agency, then the agency can facilitate contact. For more information about this service, please contact the Agency.
