 "Coming home" is a powerful desire that drives us to return to the place where we started, and once there, to relish in the wonderful feeling of being exactly where we belong. Someone once told me "we can not cease from exploring, but at the end of our exploring we will arrive where we stared and truly know that place for the first time." My return to Infant of Prague is about coming home and knowing without a doubt how truly special this agency is. My professional travels (literally the whole state of California) have confirmed how unique and extraordinary Infant of Prague is within our local adoption community and as a vanguard wihin the State. It's good to finally be back to the place where I stared, it's good to be home.
My passion has never wavered; I believe that children need strong and lasting families, where they can realize their full potential. They need families, who are enriched by expanding their definition of "family" to include, rather than exclude, all the significant connections in a child's life. These families have influenced my life and my work. As the Post Adoption Director | of Infant of Prague, I now have the opportinity to support Infant of Prague families through a whole array of post adoption services. Thirty years ago there were no post adoption services because no one considered the post adoption needs of families. As a result, families were left withough a road map to face an intricate web of emotions and complexities. Certainly, the practice of open adoption, based on shared communication and maintaining connections, has served to lessen the unspoken, unresolved pain experienced by adoptees and their families. This is not to say that the complexities of adoption are no longer present. Adoption is not a single event but rather a life-long journey. At Infant of Prague we believe that access to post adoption services is the right of every member of the triad.
As the Post Adoption Program Director, I look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with adoptees, adoptive parents and birthparents to provide them with the tools they need to address any issues facing them. Our Post Adopotion Program is available to provide education; support, training and counseling to all whose lives have been touched by adoption.
